I guess you gotta weigh the pro's and con's. You're potentially exposing you and your family by running those more than you would be with a service from Google or Amazon. Then again, those $70 IP Camera's are notorious for being hacked or susceptible to hacks.

But the pro is that your home surveillance video is with you and not with google. The only downside is the reliability of maintaining uptime on your Synology may not be as great as with a cloud service. Yeah, I guess if you already have a Synology system, this kind of a no brainer. With this, if you have a Synology, you're paying a one time $244 subscription fee + 6 x $70 (amazon recommended compatible camera) = $664 for a 6 camera set up. So in 2 years, you're paying $360 (subscription) + 6 x $140 (cameras) = $1200 for a 6 camera Nest system.

Nest aware plus is $160 a year for 10 days of 24/7 backups and 60 days of event backups. So what's the idea here? This one time purchase + compatible cameras will allow you to record and back up surveillance footage on Synology vs the alternative of always paying for a subscription from the other brands (Nest, Blink, etc.)?
